The Town of Dartmouth has a long history, some of which is seen in its buildings. Like the Dartmouth Community Television building, located at 247 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth's original Town Hall, built in 1900.

In 2016, CBI engineers prepared a Conditions Assessment for the DCTV building to ensure its preservation by the Town. Based on the condition and historical integrity of the building the assessment outlined the scope and extent of recommended repairs.

Over the last seven years, the Town has taken a phased approach to implementing the consultant’s recommendations. Since the 2016 assessment, they have addressed several issues, including asbestos abatement, cellar window replacements, and gutter installations.

The DCTV BuildingAs these necessary repairs continue, cost estimates must be updated to reflect today’s market value.

Due to rising costs, in January 2024 the Town procured a consultant to update the cost estimates for the improvements recommended by CBI. Once the consultant updates the cost of the recommended repairs, the Town will develop a plan to budget the remaining repairs and upgrades to preserve this locally important asset.

The funding for the cost update study was $4,180. It is funded by Community Preservation Funds.

The study was completed in February 2024, and will be used to develop a long-term capital improvement plan for the building.
