The Town of Dartmouth is committed to providing its residents and businesses with the highest quality drinking water possible. You probably don't think about where your water comes from, but in Dartmouth it is supplied by 14 ground water, gravel-packed, or naturally developed wells, and one pumping station. These wells have a total capacity of nearly 5,000 gallons per minute. The Town of Dartmouth's water system is maintained and tested 24/7/365.

Additionally, the Town has a strict water quality testing program. Dartmouth's water system follows the rules set forth by the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). In addition to the SDWA, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) has their own drinking water standards that are at least as protective as EPA’s national standards. The SDWA rules include guidelines for drinking water quality, water testing schedules, and water testing methods which are followed specifically by the Town's Water Division.

The Dartmouth Water Division works hard to efficiently and effectively meet the water supply needs of our town’s residents while ensuring their safety at all times. We do this by continually monitoring water purity and researching ways to best maintain or upgrade our water treatment system. To this end, we have explored proven-safe disinfection options, studied historical data, and continued to keep abreast of standards and research provided by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). We are pleased to announce that, as a result of these efforts, residents of Dartmouth will soon reap the benefits of an enhanced water treatment process. Read about the Town's transition from Chlorine to Chloramines for water disinfection here.

The Dartmouth Water Division publishes an Annual Water Quality Report that covers all aspects of the water quality program. Additionally, Dartmouth's Interim Director of Public Works and Water Division Superintendent recently sat down to provide a Water Quality Update (click here to view the video).
